When did you move to LA? 2005
What made you want to move to LA?
I wanted a change...a big one. I was searching for something more in my life and knew I wanted to live somewhere else besides NY - LA was calling my name! I was pursuing a TV Hosting career at the time, so I knew where I had to go...to the west coast baby.
What was the most challenging part of the move to LA?
I packed up two suitcases in NY and didn't know one person, where I was going to live or how I was going to make any money. It's funny, when you're up against a huge challenge like survival, there's something in you that sparks and somehow you just make it happen. That's what LA is all about -making it happen. I was scared everyday, but it's that same scary exciting feeling that drives me and makes me successful in this city.
How did your job hunt go down?
I didn't have a job when I moved to LA and only had $3,000 in my back account, which pretty much would last me one month. I was on Craigslist all day everyday looking for whatever I could to supplement my income, while I auditioned to pursue my TV Hosting career. This was the LA dream right? Well, after about three weeks, I wound up working for a teeth whitening company selling ZOOM certificates at a discounted rate to people in gyms, schools and anyone that wanted to whiten their teeth. I had a fold up white table that I had to lug in and out of my car each day and drive for hours and then sell the shit out of this piece of paper that guaranteed you would have white teeth. The beauty for me was that the job was late hours, so I still could audition during the day. It wasn't glamorous at all, but I used my sales / marketing background which made me feel college was useful. I realized after a year that I wanted to still host but pursue other avenues. I wanted to use my event planning expertise.
I then went on to work for Angeleno Magazine, running their event division for four years and now I am happy to say, that I started my own company called Pop Your Shop, which is a one stop shop where we work with brands to pop up in various locations for a limed amount of time. It has been quite the journey to get here and everything that has happened to me in LA has led me to this.
What area are you living in?
I live in the Miracle Mile area by the Grove. I absolutely LOVE it. I'm a true New Yorker and grew up very close to the city and lived there after college for years. In LA, I wanted that residential feeling with city attributes. My area has it all. Amazing restaurants, coffee shops, cool little boutiques and t'is central to everything. If I want the beach then I'm 15 min away from Santa Monica. I love going west to the beach then coming back to my nest. I feel lucky to live there.
What's your favorite thing about Los Angeles?
It's so hard to have just one because I honestly have a list, but it would have to be the variety of outdoor activities you can do every single day. From hiking to the beach to concerts to wine tasting to weekend trips just minutes away. Anything outdoors is my favorite thing.
